CCTV and Access Control
In today’s security environment, combining access control systems with a CCTV setup makes sense. Access control and CCTV systems working together allow the security system to deliver more sophisticated video data. Consider, for example, a proximity card-based access control system. Without a CCTV system, a lost or stolen card might be used by someone who shouldn’t have it to enter a facility. Even if building occupants eventually became aware of intruders inside, the access control system wouldn’t detect anything suspicious. Consider an access control system that is linked to a CCTV system now. Such a solution would employ IP video cameras, maybe with powerful video analytics software. There are several configurations for an integrated system. An integrated access control and CCTV system can be set up in a variety of ways.
One possibility is for the CCTV system to record the entrance when employees use their proximity cards to enter.
Using video analytics, the camera system may be able to determine whether the person using the card is indeed authorized to use it.
The system could then issue an alarm. In addition, some institutions might want to permanently log and save video from the entrances each time the access control system is activated, rather than recording and archiving hours’ worth of content that might be challenging to go through.
